Day 4 August 4th

The players and staff woke up to another beautiful morning in England. The sun was shining and the windy conditions has died down which meant we were in for a great day ahead. The players slowly dragged themselves out of bed and headed off to the cafeteria for some breakfast. You could tell the players would have enjoyed a little more time in bed after all of the games they played on Wednesday but CMT certainly want to treat this as a training experience and they have done a great job keeping the kids on schedule.

Once breakfast finished up, the kids quickly changed into their training gear and made their way to the fields. Both the soccer players and the field hockey players enjoyed some light sessions since everyone was moving a little slower today. The coaches didn't want to over exert them because the games are starting to come thick and fast. Morning training done and it was quick dash to the cafeteria. Everyone scarfed down their food and headed back to their dorms to change and get ready for the afternoon trips.

All of the soccer players piled onto a bus and made their way to the American Express Community Stadium (AMEX for short) which is the home of Brighton and Hove Albion FC. The stadium is only a short drive from Lancing College and as you approached it you could see the arches of the stadium. Once we pulled up to the ground, all of the players hurried off the bus and the cameras were quickly flashing away. We split the players into several groups and the BHAFC staff took us around the stadium. The groups went into the director's lounge, the various conference rooms, the press office room, the changing room, the museum and most importantly, the pitch! The stadium is amazing and could easily go toe to toe with some of the best grounds back in America. Once the tour wrapped up, the kids made their way to the club shop were everyone seemed to buy a kit and put their name on the back! Soon we were back on the bus and making our way back to Lancing College.

The field hockey players  enjoyed a slightly different excursion today as they all headed out to Arundel Castle. The medieval castle is located in West Sussex which is just under an hour away from the college. The players felt like they had stepped back in time as they toured the ancient ruins which were almost 1,000 years old. The players were able to check out the dungeon and the tour guide painted a picture of what it would have been like to be locked up all those years ago. From its highest point you could see the little village that surrounded the castle and that was the next destination. The players walked around the cobbled streets and went inside little shops and cafes for 'Afternoon Tea' and other bits. Everyone loved the experience and the fact that they were able to see another part of England. Once finished, they hopped on the bus and made their way back to the college for dinner.

After everyone finished dinner they headed off for their evening activities. Tomorrow is another big day as the teams prepare for their games. The soccer players will also head into London for the Fulham v Newcastle United match which will officially kick-off the football season in England.
